I'm not really good with planning color schemes for each room in my house and then making sure they all flow together. Color schemes for each room? Fine. Making it all work coherently? No.
In my first house, the rooms didn't really flow together (hallway congestion, bad feng shui), so I was able to think about each room as an independent decorating challenge. I wasn't always successful, I was young, hush now. But our current house has a crazy, open floorplan with this amazing, open hallway. Design decisions at one end of the house (the kitchen) definitely need to work with what's happening in the other (the nursery).
Which is why I think it's great to have a color scheme for the entire house. And I LOVE the one we've chosen!
Am I a little embarrassed to be featuring a designer's logo wallpaper in my house? A little. Do I care? Not enough. It's not like it's Hello Kitty! I love Orla Kiely and I think her classic design is fun and timeless. And the colors?!?! Yes, please.
This wallpaper was originally purchased 4-5 years ago on a business trip to London (they didn't sell it in the US back then). My plan had been to wallpaper the guest room, but as talk of moving starting happening more and more frequently, I lost my nerve. I didn't want to leave my lovely wallpaper behind!
This weekend I've been working on the finishing touches to the bathrooms (more on that later) and I keep coming back to how happy that wallpaper makes me. Knowing that these wacky color combinations I'm coming up with will work together puts a smile on my face. And on a day when I have to tolerate two championship football games, I need something to smile about.

Oh the championship football games: my favorite thing about them is that it means football season is almost over. Huzzah!
ReplyDeleteAnd I love your cute wall paper, I'm glad it will finally see it's day in the sun. (But hopefully that won't fade it!)
Maybe this is the cute blog. Cute hair one day. Cute wallpaper the next.
ReplyDeleteIs football season really that bad? It's only a once-a-week deal, right?
You're so right, championships do mean the season is almost over. Huzzah, indeed!
ReplyDeleteThe wallpaper won't even be in the sun, it's going on the only windowless walls in the house!
I used to think football was only once a week. But it seems to be a Sunday, Monday, and Thursday affair? I don't get it. Bring on spring training!
